The firm markets several key therapeutic agents, including Fetroja, a crucial therapy for multi-drug resistant gram-negative bacterial infections; Xofluza, an antiviral medication for influenza; and Tivicay, an effective anti-HIV agent. Addressing the ongoing pandemic, Shionogi is also advancing S-600918 and S-217622 for COVID-19, with S-555739 specifically aimed at preventing the aggravation of the disease. Beyond therapeutics, it supplies antibody test kits for COVID-19. The organization has established collaborative agreements with institutions like Nagasaki University, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, and The Kitasato University to further the development of antimalarial drugs. Founded in 1878, the company was initially known as Shionogi Shoten Co., Ltd. before adopting its current designation, Shionogi & Co., Ltd., in 1943. Its corporate operations are based in Osaka, Japan.
